走进魅力插画
随着国外艺术文化元素不断进入中国，插画对于国人生活和工作的影响也越来愈大。插画，简单的几笔线条，涂以五颜六色的色彩，便瞬间将一个个鲜活、充满个性的人和动物或者生活中的静物，活灵活现地呈现在人们眼前。维基百科对于插画的定义也阐明了这一?点：
“Illustration(1)is the art of making images that work with something and add to it without needing direct attention and without distracting from the thing they illustrate.” （see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illustrator） Those fantastic illustrations are produced by several simple lines together with some watercolors, which will be eye-catching and add personality and character to the content of the associated text or idea in a visual (2)manner.
插画用途广泛，常出现于儿童书籍、广告、建筑示意图、卡片、海报、书籍、插图书籍、杂志、报纸等，连最近很火的手账里也随处可见插画的身影。
Consequently, those complicated concepts or objects that are difficult to describe textually will be clarified and represented. For all these characteristics, illustrations are often found in children’s books, advertisements, architectural rendering, greeting cards, posters, books, graphic-novels, storyboards, manuals,video games, business,magazines,shirts greeting cards, tutorials and newspapers.

Felicita Sala与她的插画之旅
Felicita Sala出生于罗马，在澳大利亚第四大城市珀斯（Perth）长大，在西澳大利亚大学学习哲学的时候，她曾兼职做些绘画的工作。2007年，Felicita Sala回到罗马，并长居于此,以自由插画师和画家为职，主要从事儿童画本的工作。Felicita Sala的作品充满了生命力和色彩，她为笔下描绘的物品赋予了极大的深度。
Felicita Sala is a freelance(6) illustrator and a painter who was born in Rome but grew up in Perth, Australia’s forth biggest city. When she was studying Philosophy in the University of Western Australia, she would take some painting jobs on the side. However, after her graduation, she traveled several journeys during which she found that a part-time painter can no longer meet her inner need for painting, because “painting for painting’s sake didn’t really do it for me anymore”, as she puts it.
During her one-year stay in Rome, her hometown, she discovered illustration which gave her a brand new impression, because she found out that some people in Rome just lived on making illustrations. “It was much more than I had imagined it to be, and I thought, this is what I could do”, she remembered this experience. It is just at that time when she found her true love for this field. Thus, since the year 2007, she has been resided(7) in Rome and is currently working on children’s picture books and a lot of editorial work as well, which is quite a common popular medium(8) with illustrators.
After appreciating her strong works and hearing about her story, it’s interesting to learn that illustration isn’t what she had been doing from the very beginning. It’s something that really found her, which is so great to hear for us, for we now can be rendered(9) the opportunity to appreciate her wonderful works and to feel the rich world of her illustrations. When it feels right, it feels right!
因巧妙地使用材料，Felicita Sala的画作极具深度，她主要使用水彩和铅笔，这种结合让她的画迸发出了新的生命，不过，这两者在她画作中呈现的比例常常是不确定的，有时，她会在某些画作中更多地使用水彩，而在另外一些画作里却只使用铅笔，而这些都成为了她自己的特色。
Felicita Sala’s work is full of life and color, which gives quite depth by the way she makes use of her materials. As for her technique, Felicita uses a combination of watercolor(10) and pencil to create her illustrations, in which she would layer them together to give a lot of weight to some part of the whole work and some really nice contrast will be formed.
When I look at her works, I really like those edges of the pencils which are set against the lighter touch of those rich watercolor. In this painting, we can both feel the tender(11) heart of the illustrator and her rich and colorful inner world from those blossoming flowers around him.
Once being asked about her painting techniques, she said that she used to work with acrylics(12) (which is a quite traditional material for painting) a lot at the beginning, but her main technique is to make a watercolor base and to use colored pencil on top. The textural roughness of pencils is her love, so we can find that in her works, she would use more watercolor in certain pieces and only pencil in others.
将文字视觉化 作品超越文字表达
被问及到为什么选择插画，Felicita Sala坦言她最喜欢的就是能够将文字视觉化，而且文字越难懂、诗歌越晦涩，创作就会变得越有趣，因为从作品中就可以明确感受到创作者发挥的无尽想象力。而这也是插画师创作的精髓，作品虽凸显文字，但凌驾于文字之上。
When being asked about what the favorite part of this job is, she says that it is trying to create a visual counterpart(13) to a text which gives her the utmost inspiration and aspiration(14) to keep on.“The more difficult or poetic the text, the more interesting the work”, as she puts it. From her words, I guess this is the essence of illustration, by making words important, but going beyond them.

By recording the specific goods or persons in life, she connects our life with artistic beauty, and she becomes the beauty-maker in her life and our lives as well. In her works, the contents are various, being recipes, children’s books, and human figures, among whichI love the illustrated recipes the best.
By making cooking steps demonstrated(15) in anillustration, she successfully manages to present those fresh ingredients(16) and an eager heart which is to devour(17) the beauty of it on the same one illustration. From it, we can clearly see the happiness of the illustrator herself and the possible good mood of the readers who happen to see it.
The following is probably one of her favorite recipes ever. For her, this is her mother’s old favorites, and it is a symbol of her mother’s love. The whole illustration is quite hearty, for she has the magic to show secular(18) love from family members in plain lines and colors, which touches us deeply.
现在，Felicita Sala的作品出现在很多地方，不仅出现在儿童图书中，还被用于其他途径，比如：文具品、电子产品外壳装饰、衣服图案、枕头图案、钟表的内里、浴帘以及手提袋等等，应有尽有。
And now we can find Felicita Sala’s work in many places, because her illustrations are not only published in children’s books but also employed in other forms which are quite practical and useful in our daily lives, such asart prints, canvas prints, stationery(19)cards, Iphone & IPod cases/skins. Or they are printed on clothes like T-shirts, tops, and hoodies; and they are also being used to decorate our life in the following forms, including pillows, wall clocks, shower curtains and Tote bags (like the one in the following picture). Thus, her works have become part of our lives now.
所以，作为一位插画师，Felicita Sala用她的作品让人们体会到生活的种种滋味，有酸苦，也有喜悦。她通过插画的表现手法，充分融入自己的所思所想，用一份简简单单的本真心性，感动着人们，给平凡的生活缔造出了新的魅力。
All in all, once you see her illustration, you will be impressed definitely, for all her works reveal her real life, in which we share the same happiness and sorrow, bite the same bitter and sweet aspects of the life itself. Felicita Sala is one of these honorable(20) illustrators who would inject her very thinking, feeling and pondering for life into the illustrations so that we can see clearly what life is and we will surely be touched deeply and profoundly from her works.
